Interviews, forums set for ESU Foundation president candidates

Meetings with four individuals being considered for the presidency of the Emporia State University Foundation will be held in Emporia next week.

         Two candidate interviews are scheduled Thursday, March 15. The following day, Friday, March 16, another two candidates will be interviewed. The four finalists will also participate in a variety of meetings and forums intended to introduce them to ESU and the greater Emporia community. 

         The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a coffee for each candidate. Emporia community members are encouraged to attend and take this opportunity to meet the candidates. The first coffee sessions will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the Chamber office in the Trusler Business Center, 719 Commercial St. Friday morning's coffees will be held at the same times, but at the Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial St.

         The campus community is invited to meet the candidates at separate forums in the Memorial Union’s Webb Hall I. Those meetings are scheduled at 1:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. These meetings are open to staff, faculty, students, and friends of the university.

         The Foundation’s board of trustees appointed an 11-person committee to solicit and screen applicants for the position with the help of EFL Associates, Inc., a Leawood, Kan., executive search firm. Recognizing that candidates who are not selected for the ESU Foundation position will need the continued support of their current donor communities, the search committee has chosen to not reveal the names of the four finalists in advance of the interviews.

         “We believe ESU alumni, faculty, staff, students and community members will be equally impressed with the career experiences and fundraising successes represented by the candidates we have invited to Emporia,” said Russ Everhart, screening committee chairperson. “We have worked diligently with university and community resources to provide a variety of meet-and-greet opportunities so others can help us learn more about our next Foundation President.”

         The screening committee was named after Judith Heasley resigned the Foundation presidency in May, 2011. Tim Clothier, a 1978 ESU alumnus and former member of the Foundation board of trustees, has been leading the Foundation as its interim president.

         Founded in 1952 as a 501(c)(3) corporation, the ESU Foundation supports Emporia State University by raising, receiving, managing, investing, distributing and stewarding private resources in support of ESU's mission in the areas of teaching, research, public service and scholarship. In addition, the Foundation is responsible for raising funds for capital improvement projects.
