Social media group seeks input on draft policy

March 4, 2014

The social media work group appointed by the Kansas Board of Regents is seeking comments on a drafted new policy.

The work group, with members representing all six Regent universities in Kansas, was created by KBOR to review the policy on improper use of social media. The group has prepared a revised version of the original policy that is now available for comment.

The new draft policy is available online at Comments may be left anonymously on the website until March 28.

A subsequent draft of the policy will be prepared by the work group based on comments received. That new draft will be presented to the Kansas Board of Regents for consideration.

The Kansas Board of Regents in mid-December approved a policy dealing with the use of social media by university employees. The policy sparked debate on Kansas campuses, and in January, the work group was appointed. Representing Emporia State University are Kevin Johnson, general counsel, and Max McCoy, associate professor in the Department of English, Modern Languages and Journalism. Johnson is co-chair of the work group.
