Emporia State Choir

Emporia State has a long tradition of excellence in choral music. Under the direction of Dr. Robert Ward, the choirs at ESU are made up of students from many different majors and backgrounds. The choir department offers 3 different choral ensembles all of which sing a variety of music and participate in concerts, festivals, and tours throughout the year. A Cappella Choir
ESU's All-Campus College Choir, the A Cappella Choir, has a rich performance history. It is an auditioned mixed ensemble comprised of singers from all majors and backgrounds. They share an ability and love for making music. Noted for its innovative and versatile programming, the singers pride themselves in performing challenging and diverse choral literature from all historical eras and many cultures.

In May 2010, the A Cappella Choir toured England, singing concerts at St. Paul Cathedral, Bath Abbey, and St. James Piccadilly Church in London. Other international tours include England, France, and Germany (1989), Austria and Czechoslovakia (1992), Spain and France (1996), Denmark and Sweden (2001), and Italy, Switzerland and Austria (2006). In addition, the A Cappella Choir has been a featured ensemble at the Southwestern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association (1980) and the Kansas Music Educators Convention (1985, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1999, 2003, 2008, and 2010).

This course offers one hour of ensemble credit and counts toward General Education requirements for all degrees.

Tallgrass Chamber Choir
The Tallgrass Chamber Choir is ESU’s highly-select small choral ensemble, open to all majors, by audition. The ensemble specializes in chamber music in all styles and eras. It is expected that the members of the chamber choir will also be A Cappella Choir members.

This course offers one hour of ensemble credit.

The Tallgrass Chamber Choir meets TTh: 5pm-6:20pm Beach Music Hall, Room 132

Emporia Chorale
Comprised of students and community members from all walks of life, the Emporia Chorale is a non-auditioned ensemble made up of singers who share a common love and passion for singing great choral music. The repertoire is as diverse as the membership. Whether singing a classical motet or a song from American musical theater, the choir receives enthusiastic responses for their remarkable artistry and distinctive style. The Community Chorus performs throughout the Emporia area, community events, and the Habitat for Humanity concert each Spring.

Emporia Children's Choir
Open to any student in 3rd through 6th grade, the Emporia Children’s Choir is an opportunity for local students to further their music learning and singing in a friendly and challenging environment. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings, 6:30-7:30pm, during the school year and sings one concert each semester and for other special events.

The choir is under the direction of Kasandra Rumple who teaches music at Riverside Elementary in Emporia. Under her direction the Children’s Choir has maintained a reputation of excellence and fun!
