**  ESU String Camp  **

This is a four day summer program for string players entering grades 6th to 12th. We will work on improving students’ proficiency in several key areas of musical development. These include activities for the development of repertoire, technique, musicianship, solo and ensemble playing. The ESU string camp concludes with a concert on Saturday August 11.

Who: String players (violin, viola, cello, bass) entering the 6th to 12th grades.

When: August 8 to 11, 2018

About the Department of Music

The Department of Music (NASM accredited since 1947) offers a comprehensive inventory of courses for those who wish to major or minor in music and for those who seek musical knowledge and experiences.  Students may acquaint themselves with music as appreciative listeners, inquisitive scholars, or active performers.  Music faculty are active in performance, composition and arrangement, and publication efforts.

A state-approved degree program is offered to prepare teachers of music for the elementary and secondary schools of Kansas.  Other degree programs are designed to enable students to pursue advanced studies in music and/or find employment within the field of music.

The department provides a yearly schedule of concerts, recitals, master classes, and lectures which feature ESU music faculty and students as well as invited artist performers.

A Brief History

Come visit the Music Department in Beach Hall

Beach Music Hall, originally constructed in 1926, was completely renovated in 1997-98.  The original building houses administrative offices, classrooms, Heath Recital Hall, Hendricks Computer Laboratory, faculty studios, and practice rooms.  A new addition to the north of Beach Music Hall, The Shepherd Music Center, houses the choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, percussion studio, and the digital audio recording center.  David Emig of Emig and Associated, Emporia, served as the project architect.
