Collection Development Statement


. Purpose of Collection

To support classes taught in sociology and students writing papers on general social issues.

. User Population (Curricular and Program Needs)

Students taking classes in sociology, criminology, deviance, marriage and family living, and education.  Basic social science research and sociological theory for upper level students is also supported.

History of Collection (Collection Characteristics)

Areas given priority in purchasing include:

  • Criminology

  • Sociology of Education

  • Deviance

  • Gender studies

  • Marriage and Family living

  • Current issues such as terrorism, militia, Gun Control, Activism, Drug Control, etc.

  • To a lesser degree, sociological theory and research methods
