Hornet Orientation

Hornet Orientation includes several days of events, sessions, and activities at the beginning of the fall semester to welcome you to Emporia State University, help you connect with your peers, and provide you with important resources for your success. From helping you meet new friends to learning your way around campus, we are here to help make your transition to Emporia State as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

All new students are highly encouraged to participate in Hornet Orientation events, whether you will be living on or off campus. Only a few of the orientation events are for students living on campus. All other events are open to all new students, including those living off campus and transfer students.

We will be giving away FREE t-shirts and prizes at various events!

Friday, August 14

General Assembly & Ice Cream Social

Launch the academic year with Interim President Dr. Jackie Vietti and the campus and Emporia community at the Fall 2015 General Assembly. Immediately following is an ice cream social on the main level of the Memorial Union.

Dinner & Floor Meetings

At the floor meeting, you will get to know your Resident Assistant and your floor mates, receive important information about living in the residence halls, and learn more about Hornet Orientation events. This meeting is required for all students living in the residence halls.

Playfair is unlike anything you have experienced. It's entertainment! It's fun! It's the perfect way for you to make new friends! Get to know the Emporia community at this annual event for ESU students! Join us on Commercial Street just in front of the university for an evening filled with music, free food, and give-aways from local businesses. The Emporia community closes down two blocks of Commercial Street to throw a welcome party just for you! Sponsored by Emporia Main Street Association.

Within the confines of stylist circles, the barbershop and salon have long been deemed places of sanctuary where diverse topics are discussed in a fairly open fashion - topics ranging from sports to politics to even relationships. The intimate relationship between a client and their stylist has long stood the test of time. As depicted in the popular Ice Cube series “Barbershop” and the Queen Latifa series “Beauty Shop”, the barbershop/beauty salon provides a unique opportunity for growth that is often taken for granted within our everyday experiences.
