Hornet Orientation & Welcome Week

Hornet Orientation and Welcome Week includes several days of events, sessions, and activities at the beginning of the fall semester to welcome you to Emporia State University, help you connect with your peers, and provide you with important resources for your success. From helping you meet new friends to learning your way around campus, we are here to help make your transition to Emporia State as smooth and enjoyable as possible. All new students are highly encouraged to participate in Hornet Orientation and Welcome Week events, whether you will be living on or off campus. Only a few of the orientation events are for students living on campus. All other events are open to all new students, including those living off campus and transfer students.

At the floor meeting, you will get to know your Resident Assistant and your floor mates, receive important information about living in the residence halls, and learn more about Hornet Orientation events. This meeting is required for all students living in the residence halls.

Come have a blast kicking off Hornet Orientation 2017!!! We will give you all the information you need to know about orientation and the first week of classes, but more importantly how to win prizes! The first 200 students will receive an ESU t-shirt! Students will receive a ticket to be entered to win a tailgate tent and chairs and other ESU swag!!!

Monday, August 21

  Lost?! Need Help Finding your Classes?

Volunteers will be stationed throughout campus.

  Eclipse Party
11:30am-2:30pm
Union Square

Kick off the semester with a midday party, thanks to the near perfect aligment of the moon and sun. ESU will dismiss noon classes at 12:30, and delay 1 o’clock classes until 1:30 p.m. Join sciences students and faculty to learn more about the eclipse, view it with special glasses (provided) and enjoy music, snacks and a photo booth.

Get to know the Emporia community at this annual event just for ESU students! Join us on Commercial Street just in front of the university for an evening filled with music, free food, and giveaways from local businesses. The Emporia community closes down two blocks of Commercial Street to throw a welcome party just for you! Sponsored by Emporia Main Street Association.

Jump into the game! Come check out a scrimmage of the Emporia State University Hornets as they take the field Monday night. Stand on the field and win some prizes while you are there! Sponsored by ESU Football.

Come to Union Activities Council's annual event, Party on the Lawn! This year, featuring Six Appeal, a world class vocal ensemble infused with sharp comedic timing, and the energy and vitality of a rock band.  Swearing off instruments, the award winning vocal band Six Appeal takes you on a journey that spans decades of music - performing classic oldies, current chart toppers, and catchy original tunes – completely a cappella.
Free sno cones brought to you by Traci’s Shaved Ice. You can also challenge your in the Boot Camp Blitz. You and your opponent will race through the 91 foot course by climbing, sliding, jumping through fiery hoops, squeeze your way through pillars, cross the pit, then get ready to grab the rope and swing on an inflatable rope swing, then crawl up the mountain and slide to finish.  Sponsored by Union Activities Council.

The first round of Panhellenic formal sorority recruitment includes house tours at each of the three Panhellenic chapter houses. You must be registered for Panhellenic formal recruitment to participate. The final round of Panhellenic formal recruitment is referred to as Preference Day. You must have attended Round 1, Round 2, and be registered for Panhellenic formal recruitment to participate. This is where potential new members are invited to specific chapters and make a final preference on which chapter(s) they would be interested in joining. Final selections will be made as each potential new member finishes their events. Sponsored by Panhellenic Association.
