ESU Foundation Hornet Nation Rising
Hornet Nation Rising is a Call to Action
A call to action for our alumni and friends
Hornet Nation Rising is a proclamation of our commitment to creating and continuing quality, high-impact learning for the students that walk our halls. It is a call to action for our alumni and friends to join in and continue the Hornet Nation tradition of opening doors of opportunity and building student success.
By joining the movement, you too can build a better world. When you make a philanthropic commitment to excellence in education, to creating high-quality future leaders, to fostering student-professor mentorship and improving campus facilities in order to make way for new learners, you are a part of a rising tide that is lifting others up. Our top priorities are student scholarships, campus facilities, endowed professorships, and creating champions.
For many students, scholarships are a key factor in where they choose to attend college. They often have the necessary qualities to succeed as a student – determination, a strong work ethic, an inquisitive mind, but they face financial obstacles and impediments. That is why scholarships at Emporia State University make a life-changing difference for students.
Scholarships are also critical to the health and success of our institution. They provide ESU a pathway to recruit high-quality students with the drive and determination to stay the course and accomplish their goals. When you give to scholarships, you are investing in the longevity of ESU and in these bright and determined students, providing them with hands-on, high impact learning experiences in an environment where small class size and intensive faculty involvement is the norm, not the exception. There is a reason our career placement is 98%. It’s because our students have had real-life learning through research and internships. On our campus, they are provided the opportunities to work on real problems to achieve real-world solutions, and that gives our graduates a competitive advantage.
An investment in scholarships at Emporia State University produces graduates who are ready to compete in a dynamic global economy, and whose adaptive leadership skills position them to make a meaningful impact in their community and beyond. It is a remarkable return on investment.
ESU is continually improving campus facilities. Two major projects currently underway are a new residence hall slated to open 2019 and a new Prophet Aquatic Research Outreach Center.
For new students on campus, residence halls are a key component to success and can ensuring a smooth transition to college life. Students thrive because they are immersed in the campus community, leading them to naturally focus on opportunities for academic achievement and involvement with student organizations. Our new residence hall, opening fall 2019, will take all these elements to the next level, blending living and learning environments. Incorporated into the housing sphere will be learning spaces and commons areas. The university will benefit from having a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a powerful tool to attract and retain new students. Your gift will impact our students for generations to come, in a way that will affect every aspect of their life here on campus.
High impact learning will be at the heart of the research opportunities at the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center. It will have indoor and outdoor laboratories that will be a hybrid between the field and the classroom. Students will be able to perform research on aquatic organisms and environments that are critical to learn how the environment works. The center will also enhance Emporia State's capacity for outreach education in the Emporia community and beyond. This facility will expand our ability to educate the public about the importance of water and aquatic environments.
Faculty are essential for a quality college education and academic experience. Professors who not only teach their curriculum but also invest their time and energy into the overall well-being of our students are the threads that bind the fabric of Emporia State University. Instructors guide us, teach us to question and find answers, and shine the light of learning on our path toward understanding.
If your life was touched by a phenomenal professor, then you know how deep their impact can reach. So much of our success is a result of their efforts and influence. Often our alumni think back on their time at Emporia State and wonder how they can share their story of gratitude with others, and honoring that professor or professors who made the crucial difference in your life will both celebrate your mentors and impact future students for generations to come.
Endowed professorships pair the sentimental qualities of philanthropy with great strategic purpose. This competitive advantage strengthens our student recruitment efforts, reinforces our high curriculum standards, and ultimately shapes ESU’s future success.
Strong athletic programs are the cornerstone of school pride– for student-athletes, current students, prospective students, alumni, fans and the community. Our Creating Champions initiative will strengthen existing programs through scholarships and facility enhancements which will help us continue to recruit student-athletes who are highly competitive both in the classroom and on the field.
Our goal at Emporia State is to provide a world-class environment for our student-athletes. Scholarship support and facility improvements give the university a competitive edge, first in attracting student-athletes to choose ESU and then in positioning them to thrive in their sport and classroom once they are here. Hornet Nation is a community and our student-athletes choose Emporia State because of a strong sense of family - because of the network of engaged coaches and instructors, alumni and fans - a family who lets them know there is a team behind them at all times. Creating Champions is an integral component of our Athletics program and is a great way to show you, too, are on the team.
