Applied Sociology

Master of Arts

Emporia State University’s Applied Sociology MA program is designed to help students understand how to produce positive change through active intervention. Students are trained in practical skills of research methods, grant proposal writing, program evaluation, effective interpersonal relations, and decision making. Two tracks are available in community leadership and criminal justice.


Master of Arts

The MA degree in History is designed for history students with a wide variety of interests, including those intending to continue on for Ph.D. work in history; secondary education teachers interested in graduate work concentrating on history, political science, or geography; and those interested in a career in public history. Other students also may find the program suitable, depending on their individual aspirations.

With a BSE in Social Sciences Education, you can teach American history, world history, Kansas history, civics and government, economics, geography, and sociology in middle and high schools. Our job placement rate is excellent and our award-winning BSE alumni are teaching all over Kansas, other states, and the world!


Certificate Program

The Graduate Certificate in History is designed for teachers teaching dual-enrollment courses at the high school level, needing 18 graduate hours in the discipline as per Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements. This is offered online.

Political Science Graduate Certificate


The Political Science Graduate Certificate is designed for teachers who hold Master’s Degrees in other fields and seek to meet the Higher Learning (HLC) requirements for teaching dual-enrollment high school Government courses.
