EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY CHOIRS
Emporia State has a long tradition of excellence in choral music. Under the direction of Dr. Jacob Narverud, the choirs at ESU are comprised of students from all different majors across campus. The choral department offers three ensembles, all of which sing a variety of music and participate in concerts, festivals, and tours throughout the year.

A CAPPELLA CHOIR
ESU’s all-campus mixed choir, A Cappella Choir, is the flagship choral ensemble of the university and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students by audition. A Cappella Choir is comprised of singers from all majors and backgrounds who enjoy making music at a high artistic level. With a rich regional, national, and international performance history, the ESU A Cappella Choir performs a wide variety of challenging and diverse choral literature from numerous eras, genres, and cultures.

This course offers one hour of ensemble credit per semester and counts toward General Education requirements for all degrees.

CHAMBER SINGERS
ESU’s select small mixed choral ensemble is open to all majors by audition. This chamber ensemble is comprised of highly dedicated undergraduate students who enjoy performing music in numerous languages from many genres.

EMPORIA STATE CHORALE
Comprised of ESU students of all majors and choral enthusiasts from the Emporia area, the Emporia State Chorale is a non-auditioned ensemble made up of singers who share a common love and passion for singing great choral music in all styles. The Emporia State Chorale performs on campus, throughout the community, and for the Habitat for Humanity concert each spring. Led by Dr. Narverud, this ensemble also provides music education majors and conductors-in-training the opportunity to work with a choir in a rehearsal setting, gaining valuable podium time and real-world conducting experience.
