EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY CHOIRS

Emporia State has a long tradition of excellence in choral music. Under the direction of Dr. Jacob Narverud, the choirs at ESU are made up of students from many different majors and backgrounds. The choral department offers three different ensembles, all of which sing a variety of music and participate in concerts, festivals, and tours throughout the year. A CAPPELLA CHOIR

ESU’s all-campus mixed choir, A Cappella Choir, is the flagship ensemble of the university and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students by audition. A Cappella Choir is comprised of singers from all majors and backgrounds who enjoy making music at a high artistic level. With a rich regional, national, and international performance history, the ESU A Cappella Choir performs a wide variety of challenging and diverse choral literature from numerous eras, genres, and cultures.

Limited to 48 singers for the 2020-2021 academic year (12S, 12A, 12T, 12B)

This course offers one hour of ensemble credit and counts toward General Education requirements for all degrees.

CHAMBER SINGERS

ESU’s select small mixed choral ensemble is open to all majors by audition. This chamber ensemble is comprised of highly dedicated undergraduate students who enjoy performing music in numerous languages from many genres with a focus on choral works from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras.

Limited to 12 singers for the 2020-2021 academic year (3S, 3A, 3T, 3B)

EMPORIA CHORALE

Comprised of students and community members from all walks of life, the Emporia Chorale is a non-auditioned ensemble made up of singers who share a common love and passion for singing great choral music in all styles. The Emporia Chorale performs throughout the Emporia area, at community events, and for the Habitat for Humanity concert each spring. Led by Dr. Narverud, this ensemble also provides music education majors and conductors-in-training the opportunity to work with a choir in a rehearsal setting, gaining valuable podium time and real-world conducting experience.

- All voice parts (SATB) needed.

- Ability to read music required.

- Choral singing experience required.

- Strong readers and musicians desired.

Limited to ESU students only for Fall 2020. Community members are encouraged to participate online until COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted and we can safely sing together once again!
