Director of Choral Activities

Dr. Robert Ward is the Director of Choral Activities at Emporia State University where he conducts the A Cappella Choir, Tallgrass Chamber Choir, and the Emporia Community Choir. Along with his conducting duties, he teaches courses in conducting and choral methods.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Music from Oklahoma State University, Master of Music from Southern Methodist University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of North Texas. As an educator, Robert taught middle and high school choir in North Texas, including eight years at The Oakridge School in Arlington. During that time, he became interested in emerging teaching philosophies and their potential impact in music. Robert presented twice at the Texas Music Educators Association on these topics which motivated his desire to pursue graduate studies. While a graduate student Robert served as the conductor of the SMU Concert Choir, taught undergraduate conducting at UNT, and served as the assistant conductor of the Fort Worth Chorale in Fort Worth, Texas.

Robert continues to perform as a singer and has performed with the Orpheus Chamber Singers, Taylor Festival Choir, Texas Choral Artists, The Choral Pickup, Vox Humana and the South Dakota Chorale.
