Communication, Emerging Technology & Society Concentration
The Bachelor of Science in communication is a broad, liberal arts experience that also provides an introduction to major aspects of communication theory and practice. Students pursuing the BS in communication are required to complete 33 hours of communication coursework, including 18 hours of communication core classes, and 15 hours in a concentration. Students completing a BS also are required to take 12 hours in a second program of study.
The Communication, Emerging Technology & Society concentration focuses on the now, the emerging and the upcoming so students can be prepared for what’s next. This concentration will take a deep dive into topics in communication and technology, including ethics, user experience, innovation and collaboration.
What you can do with this degree
Prepares students to contribute to a variety of evolving positions related to social media and content creation, project management, user experience, design and innovation, and entrepreneurship. Students explore communication theory and practice related to emerging technologies and their implications for relationships, organizations, and society. Students gain skills in design thinking, ethical reasoning, data collection and analysis, and leadership and collaboration. Course offerings expose students to critical conversations on the relationship between communication and emerging technologies.
