October 5, 2020: December 2020 Commencement
Message from David Cordle, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
October 5, 2020
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Today I’m writing to inform you of key details about commencement in December. Because ESU was unable to hold May Commencement this year, December Commencement ceremonies will celebrate our Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 graduates.
ESU’s 2020 Commencement on December 11 and 12 will be virtual, with the two ceremonies staged in Albert Taylor Hall but streamed online. In-person participants will be limited to the platform party and musicians. Students, faculty, staff, and family members will be invited to experience the ceremonies online.
The ceremony for graduate students will be broadcast on Friday, December 11 at 6 p.m., and the ceremony for undergraduate students will be broadcast on Saturday, December 12 at 9:30 a.m. Both ceremonies will also be available on the university’s website for viewing afterward.
Keeping the Hornet Nation safe was the primary consideration in ESU’s decision to hold a virtual Commencement. But we are also determined to provide our graduates the best Commencement experience that we can under the circumstances. To that end, our planning for a virtual December Commencement will aim to duplicate our normal in-person ceremonies as closely as possible. Additional information about December Commencement will be shared as it becomes available.
With Hornet Pride,
David P. Cordle
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
