Communication from Joan Brewer, TTC Dean: confirmed case of COVID-19 at Johnson County Community College Campus

To our ESU faculty who teach courses on the Johnson County Community College Campus:

As you may be aware, there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the Johnson County Community College Campus. JCCC is working closely with the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) to identify any close contacts by the individual and are reaching out to those persons who meet the criteria for close contact. If you have any questions, you can contact the JCDHE at 913-477-8343.

Keep in mind, there are no classes from 3/16-3/20 and all face-to-face coursework through ESU will be moved online effective March 23, 2020. Courses already online continue as usual beginning March 16, 2020. Please communicate with your students via e-mail or through Canvas. Students are likely to be stressed and have many questions during this time. Try to be reassuring. As the virus becomes more widespread, it is important to remember that exposure to the virus can come from many places in the community. Our best defense is still to practice good personal hygiene:

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve.
  • Stay home if you become sick.
  • Wash your hands frequently. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap is not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash hands after using shared keyboards and work machines.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
