Civic Leadership for the Common Good
Dr. Evelyn Hill has served on the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education from 2009 to 2017. She values education and believes every child has the right to receive a quality education. She embraces the fact that we are life-time learners. Every day we have opportunities to learn new things.
Dr. Hill believes we need to prepare this generation of students for the global workforce which is very different from the workforce of yesterday. This new generation of learners must be prepared to excel in the technical fields of the new laptop, smart phone and iPad learning tools and beyond. Technology is changing rapidly therefore education should be changing rapidly.
Dr. Hill has been employed with Avenue of Life since 2015. There she has served as the Equipping Center Program Director, where her responsibilities included but were not limited to scheduling and recruiting teachers and volunteers for educational programming for the community in areas of finance, GED, exercise, nutrition and self-defense. In this role she also provided curriculum for a summer tutoring program for students ages 4 – 12 years with emphasis on reading and math. In her current role as the Community Engagement Director she speaks on behalf of Avenue of Life to community stakeholders such as the Unified Government of WYCO and BPU, churches, businesses, schools and other non-profit organizations. She also participates in the fund development side of the organization.
Dr. Hill has served in many volunteer positions over the years including but not limited to; the Mayor’s Diversity Council, KCK Chamber of Commerce board of directors, Consultant to the Mayor of Richmond Virginia for Youth Involvement in City Administration, Leadership 2000, Keeler’s Women’s Center , Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Joyce Williams Center (Domestic Violence Shelter), The 7 Project, Wyandotte County United Way, The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council and the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable.
Dr. Hill is married to Pastor Robert Hill. They have four sons and one daughter. They also have eleven grand-children.
