Department of Art Mission Statement
The Department of Art at Emporia State University has served as an integral component of the university since its foundation in the early 20th century. Although the Department’s initial focus was on art education, currently the majority of the majors in the Department are pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, with the remainder working toward a Bachelor of Science in Education in Art, a Bachelor of Science in Art with pre-art therapy preparation, or a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Art History. The Department’s mission, goals, and objectives remain consistent and interrelated to those of the university.
The Department of Art is dedicated to preparing students for a career in and a lifelong relationship with the visual arts. It is our objective to provide programs and curricula that foster passion for the arts and give students the opportunity to study art according to their individual goals. Our goal as a Department is to prepare students to pursue advanced degrees in art, art therapy, and/or art history, to work as professional artists, or to teach art in secondary or elementary schools by offering comprehensive and rigorous curricular programs.
Emporia State University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
