Elberta Harris Scholarship

For graduates from Johnson County high schools

Elberta Harris of Gardner, Kansas, left more than $1.1 million to Emporia State University to support scholarships for prospective teachers enrolled in The Teachers College. The value of the award, and number of students awarded, varies each year.

An incoming freshman must:

  • graduate from a Johnson County high school
  • apply to ESU and plan a degree path in elementary or secondary education
  • maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

Deadline: Friday, November 15, 2019

Submit:

  • a completed application (application form.pdf)
  • scholarship essay
  • two letters of recommendation
  • official high school transcript
  • ACT scores

An incoming transfer student or current ESU student must:

  • have graduated from a Johnson County high school
  • be a full-time student (12+ credit hours per semester) pursuing a degree in elementary or secondary education
  • have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • have a strong record of community service
