I am in my fifth year as an assistant professor, but have been teaching at the collegiate level in some capacity for a little over eleven years. I have worked at three universities, all with terrific faculty members, from whom I've learned a lot. I've taught (and teach) a wide variety of classes in the areas of physiology, health and fitness.

While my research interests encompass just about anything related to exercise, I am particularly interested in skeletal muscle function and metabolism. Some of the related research I've done includes plyometrics, power tests, resistance training, as well as metabolic responses (e.g., carbohydrate and fat utilization) to various acute and chronic training protocols. I've been lucky enough to have published and presented a little bit in each of these areas.

Learning is a life-long experience and I try to stay abreast of current developments by reading the literature and attending professional conferences. Recently I participated in a practicum sponsored by the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements. It was fascinating - probably one of the most interesting and educational events I have ever attended. If you ever get the opportunity to take part, I highly recommend it.

I also have over five years of coaching experience, from middle school through to the collegiate level. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S) as recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Although I've coached several sports, I have most enjoyed working with track and field athletes. In addition, from time to time I've been a personal trainer.
