President's Message

April 2012

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a semester goes by. This semester, we have already sponsored a reception for the 2012 Kansas Teachers of the Year, held a Book Talk featuring the book Glut: Mastering Information Through the Ages, and hosted a professional development session for secondary education students at Emporia State University on Interactive Whiteboards. These events could not happen without the service of our chapter members who have either organized or faciliated these events. As one of the three long-standing tenets of PDK, service is essential to keeping our chapter active.

This past January, Phil Bennett, a member of the Flint Hills Chapter, and recipient of the Service Key, announced his retirement from his position as Dean of The Teachers College of Emporia State University. Dr. Bennett served as President of the Flint Hills Chapter as recently as 2009 - 2010, has been a member of PDK for 38 years, and received the Service Key in April 2010. Words cannot express my appreciation for his leadership and service as Dean and as his past service as President and continued support of our chapter. I hope you will join me in showing your appreciation and support for Dr. Bennett at our annual banquet, or the next time you see him.

If you would like to follow Dr. Bennett's example and serve the Flint Hills Chapter as an officer or committee chairperson, or interested in becoming a member of our chapter, please feel free to contact me or any of our current officers.

Our semester, however, is not over yet! Upcoming events include our Annual Banquet and Membership Meeting, Chalk Walk, and the National Teachers Hall of Fame Banquet Induction. Please check out our calendar of events and plan to join us! These events not only support our chapter goals but also the mission of PDK to support education. I hope to see you at one of them.

Sincerely,
Zeni Colorado
