President's Message
This past January, Phil Bennett, a member of the Flint Hills Chapter, and recipient of the Service Key, announced his retirement from his position as Dean of The Teachers College of Emporia State University. Dr. Bennett served as President of the Flint Hills Chapter as recently as 2009 - 2010, has been a member of PDK for 38 years, and received the Service Key in April 2010. Words cannot express my appreciation for his leadership and service as Dean and for his past service as President and continued support of our chapter. Read More

Flint Hills Chapter Receives PDK Project Grant
The Flint Hills Chapter located in Emporia, KS has received a $1,500 PDK Project Grant from PDK International, a global association of education professionals. The Flint Hills chapter will use their project grant to sponsor a professional development workshop and two social events geared toward member recruitment. Read More.


Flint Hills Chapter Sponsors Interactive Whiteboards Professional Development Session
On March 7, 2012, the Flint Hills Chapter of PDK sponsored a professional development session about Interactive Whiteboards. The professional development session was geared towards secondary education majors of the Teachers College at Emporia State University. Book Talk Features Discussion of Alex Wright's Glut
Members of the Flint Hills Chapter community and guests gathered on March 14 at 3:30 p.m. in William Allen White Library lobby to share a lively discussion of Alex Wright’s 2007 book, “Glut: Mastering Information Through the Ages.” Dr. Andrew Smith, Assistant Professor at the School of Library and Information Management, Emporia State University, led the discussion by immediately pointing out Wright’s central theme: the concept of information systems is not a modern construct. Annual Banquet to be Held on April 26, 2012
Once again this April, Flint Hills Chapter Members will gather for a membership meeting, award the PDK Scholarships for the Kansas Future Teacher Academy, induct new members into the chapter, as well as recognize members for accomplishments. Read More.

 

Annual Chalk Walk Set for May 5, 2012
Last year on Saturday, May 7th, Future Teacher Association (FEA) students and faculty from Emporia High School honored teachers during a Chalk Walk at Flint Hills Mall. Sponsored by the Flint Hills PDK chapter, funds supported the Emporia High School FEA and PDK Foundation. The event occurred during National Teachers Appreciation week.
