Helping students to achieve their career goals while ensuring that America will have great teachers for tomorrow is central to the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) mission to support education as the cornerstone of democracy. The PDK, Flint Hills Chapter outstanding, involvement with future and current educators makes clear our determination to promote high-quality education. Through leadership, research and service, we have throughout the 2010-11 year again hosted and co-hosting special events, supported and encouraged PDK conference participation, encouraged future educators, and much more. Education Assessments – What Matters?
As schools across the state prepare for the state assessments, nearly 500 people attended a lecture Wednesday night to listen to an education expert who says these assessments are aimed at “trying to fix things that do not matter.” Dr. Yong Zhao gave the talk as the Jones Distinguished Lecture, addressing American Education in the Age of Globalization in Albert Taylor Hall at Emporia State University. Read for the Record Report
The Flint Hills Chapter once again partictipated in the annual Read for the Record Campaign on Thursday, October 7, 2010. With volunteer readers for this year's event included Emporia High School Future Educator Association members, Emporia State University faculty and students in The Teachers College and School of Library Information Management, a total of 905 children participated! 2010-2011 Chapter Goals:

Publicize research-based knowledge activities and accomplishments by the Flint Hills Chapter and its members through presentations and/or publications.

Recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions of PDK members and the Flint Hills Chapter by submitting individual or chapter award nominations.

Cultivate and support next generation of educators by sponsoring events with Emporia High School, Emporia, KS, FEA® group.

Increase Flint Hills Chapter membership by 20%.

Conduct an inquiry of area high schools to determine locations of existing future educator clubs.  This information can be used to formulate plans for increasing area FEA® groups.

Flint Hills Chapter Hosted Reception for 2011 Teachers of the Year Share Experiences
The 2011 Kansas Teacher of the Year and Regional Teachers of the Year award recipients came to Emporia State University on Thursday, February 3 to advocate for their profession. The Flint Hills Chapter, Phi Delta Kappa, hosted a reception at 2:30 p.m. in The Teachers College Atrium. Students, faculty and chapter members had an opportunity to visit with the five honored teachers and question them about their teaching experiences and the state of education. Read More



Conference Innovations with PDK and FEA in Altanta 
For the first time, Phi Delta Kappa held its annual international conference (February 17-18) in conjunction with the Future Educators Association annual meeting (February 18-20) with more than 1,000 members attending the Friday evening banquet at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Georgia. Annual Banquet to be Held on April 28, 2011
Once again this April, Flint Hills Chapter Members will gather to award the PDK Scholarships for the Kansas Future Teacher Academy, induct new members into the chapter, as well as recognize members for accomplishments. Read More.

Annual Emporia Chalk Walk Honors Teachers
Last year on Saturday, May 8, 2011, Future Teacher Association (FEA) students and faculty from Emporia High School honored teachers during a Chalk Walk at Flint Hills Mall.
