by Zeni Colorado
On March 7, 2012, the Flint Hills Chapter of PDK sponsored a professional development session about Interactive Whiteboards. The professional development session was geared towards secondary education majors of the Teachers College at Emporia State University. The idea for the session originiated with an inquiry from undergraduate PDK member, Dustin Burghardt. He and his secondary education classmates were interested in learning more about interactive whiteboards.
The session, titled Interactive Whiteboards and Learner Response Systems, was presented by Dr. Jozenia Colorado. Dr. Colorado is an Assistant Professor in the Instructional Design and Technology Department at Emporia State University, and the current President of the Flint Hills PDK Chapter. In the session, Dr. Colorado discussed what interactive whiteboards are and what types students may find in their future classroom. She then demonstrated how to use the Promethean ActivBoard with the ActivInspire Software. The participants then had an opportunity to create their own ActivInspire files as well as work with the ActivBoard. The session was follow with a demonstration of the Promethean Learner Responses systems called ActivExpressions.
