The Flint Hills Chapter once again partictipated in the annual Read for the Record Campaign on Thursday, October 7, 2010. With volunteer readers for this year's event included Emporia High School Future Educator Association members, Emporia State University faculty and students in The Teachers College and School of Library Information Management, a total of 905 children participated! Schools participating included several USD 253 schools in Emporia, Kansas as well as Miller's Milestone's school in Eureka, KS and, the Early Childhood Education Center on the ESU campus. According to the PDK International Website, “The annual Read for the Record campaign encourages teens and adults to read with young children. By encouraging a single, common day of reading engagement where participants read the same book, Jumpstart attempts each year to set a new world record and raise awareness about the importance of early childhood education. “ This year’s Read for the Record book was The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack. The date for next year's Read for the Record has not yet been selected; however, please go to the Read for the Record website to see information as it is updated at http://www.readfortherecord.org.
