Use of investigations of metals complexes to train new chemists is the major goal of my research.
In the process, a range of colorful compounds have been made and isolated.

• Polytungstates and polyoxometalates (i.e. heteropolytungstates)



• Keggin structures of a polytungstate showing (l to r) bond-, polyhedral- and space-fuilling models.
• Investigations relating to reactions, catalysis, syntheses, and structures. Current interests relate to the interactions in aqueous solution with organic and biochemical substrates.


• Rhenium carbonyl complexes

• Synthesis of binuclear complexes in which a non-rhenium metal atom, such as cobalt, is present is a current area of research
• Cyclic voltametry is one technique for characterizing complexes


• Separation Science

• Theory and application of various methods to separate mixtures. Principle interests are in absorptive separations and adsorption isotherms.

• Interests include the detection and analysis of metal containing species in soil.
• Investigations of soil metal interactions and absorption and re-mediation.
• This usually involves extraction and use of atomic absorption or emission spectroscopy.
