Biographical/Historical note

Capy Illinois Williams was born November 21, 1893, in Americus, Kansas. She attended Kansas State Normal School’s Normal Training High School and graduated in 1918. Capy taught private music lessons, then worked for Kansas State Teachers College’s Endowment Association for 20 years; she retired in 1973. Community memberships included the First Christian Church, the World War I Veterans Auxiliary, Emporia Rebekah Lodge 36, Daughters of Union Veterans, Past Presidents Club of Daughters of Union Veterans, Miriam Chapter 14 of the Order of Eastern Star, and Sonora Homecomers. Capy Williams passed away on February 14, 1983.

Scope and Contents note

This collection consist of two certificates and one diploma earned by Capy Williams. The certificates were issued by the Kansas State Normal School Department of Music and were rewarded for playing the violin. Also included is a diploma signifying her graduation from the Normal Training High School in 1915.
