Emporia Press Review

The Emporia Press Review was an independent student publication created by students at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Scott L. Wheeler and Kent Dobbins created it as an alternative to the  Emporia Gazette and the  Bulletin. The newspaper was published in Osawatomie, Kansas. The first issue was published on October 21, 1992. There were five thousand copies of the first issue distributed; three thousand were distributed on campus and the rest were distributed throughout the community. A new issue came out every Wednesday. The political views expressed were conservative and centered on the 1992 election and controversial campus issues. Several issues of a newsletter, “You Deserve an Epitaph,” were written to speak out against the political views expressed in the  Emporia Press Review. Scott L. Wheeler was the editor-in-chief and Kent Dobbins was the managing editor of the  Emporia Press Review. The editorial staff included Angela Samuels, Keith Miller, and Robert Norris. The newspaper’s writers included Jason Lowery, Chris Podebarac, M. Creosote, B. Sloan Courtland, Kent Elwood Stone and national correspondent Thomas Allen. The newspaper also included articles by non-staff writers and the Universal Press Syndicate. The last issue of the  Emporia Press Review was published on January 20, 1993.
