Ellen Plumb

Ellen Plumb moved to Kansas in 1857 with her parents, David and Hannah Bierce Plumb, at the encouragement of her brother, Preston B. Plumb. Ellen attended school in Ohio, then she and Mary Jane Watson became the first graduating class of The State Normal School of Kansas in June 1867. Her association with the school continued as she served as principal of the Model School from 1868-1870. She later operated the City Bookstore in downtown Emporia, Kansas. Other associations included membership in the First Congregational Church and The Parliament Club. When The State Normal School of Kansas organized an Alumni Association in 1880, she accepted a position as treasurer and served in that capacity until her death on May 10, 1913.
