Photograph of Herbert Partridge and two certificates issued in 1907.Herbert James Partridge was born December 6, 1882, in Woodburn, Illinois, to Rufus and Elizabeth Partridge. The family moved near Ellinwood and then to Macksville, Kansas, in 1899. Herbert attended Kansas State Normal School where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. Following college he taught school in Stafford and Pratt counties. Herbert married Bertha Stark on December 10, 1910, in St. John, Kansas. That same year he purchased a hardware store in Greensburg with his brother, and he entered the plumbing business two years later. Herbert was a member of the Greensburg Methodist Church and worked with the local Boy Scout organization. He passed away on January 15, 1947, and is buried in the Farmington Cemetery near Macksville, Kansas.
