Jessie Louise Forde

Jessie Louise Forde was the daughter of Edgar M. and Louisa Tillottson Forde. She attended Kansas State Normal School and earned a degree in Latin in 1896 and a Life Certificate in 1910. She also earned a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University, New York, in 1914. Jessie taught at the Century school house in Emporia, Kansas, and at Kansas State Normal School's training school from 1909-1913. She moved to Charleston, Illinois, where she taught in the elementary laboratory school of the Eastern Illinois State Normal School from 1913-1925. Jessie moved to Orlando, Florida, in 1925. She passed away on March 3, 1961.

Scope and Contents note

This collection consists of documents relating to the life of Jessie Louise Forde. Included are a Life Certificate from Kansas State Normal School (1910) and two masters degree diplomas from Columbia University (1914). One diploma is designated a Master's in Education and the other a Master of Arts; however, these are diplomas for a single Master of Arts degree issued by the Teachers College of Columbia University. The final item is a certificate verifying Jessie's membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution which includes some genealogical information.

Jessie Forde is pictured as faculty in the 1912 and 1913 Sunflower yearbooks. Her obituary is available via microfilm copy of the Emporia Gazette.
