Biographical/Historical note

Ernest Cleveland Rees was born July 9, 1892, in Girard, Kansas. He earned a life certificate from the State Normal School in Emporia, Kansas, in 1913, and a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1915. As a college student he participated in the campus Y.M.C.A., History Club, Speech Arts Association, served as one president of the Representative Debating Club, and as Sergeant-at-arms for his sophomore class. Ernest was employed as vocational agriculture teacher and superintendent of schools in Gower, Missouri. During a physics experiment, a test tube exploded and caused him to have permanent blindness. Ernest then became a dairy farmer, using his vocational agriculture training to select the property near Neosho, Missouri, in 1936, where he and his wife Delia made their home. Ernest died October 9, 1976, at the age of 84.
