Biographical/Historical note

The Yes I Can Basketball Camp was co-founded by Stan Kellner, the creator of Basketball Cybernetics and author of Beyond the Absolute Limit. The camp was based on a philosophy of positive thinking intended to bring the mind and body together for peak athletic performance. The first camp was held at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1979. The camps expanded to include other locations, including camps at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, from 1981 to 2002. The camps held at Emporia State University were led by basketball coach Ron Slaymaker. The summer basketball camps at Emporia grew from one camp session with 33 girls and 33 boys in 1981 to four camp sessions with 240 campers each summer. More than 10,000 campers participated in the camps during the 22 years that they were held at Emporia State University. After 2002 the camp relocated from Emporia State University to Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas.
