Biographical/Historical note

The Teachers College at Emporia State University provides an early childhood development environment for children of Emporia State University faculty, staff, students, and the general public through the Center for Early Childhood Education. The Center also provides an environment conducive for faculty and students’ research projects as well as training experience for Emporia State University students aspiring to become teachers or early childhood development professionals.

The Center for Early Childhood Education was licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in August 2004. It is the product of merging the Child Development Center which began in 1982, and the Butcher Preschool, which began in the early 1970’s.

The Center offers four classes: the Toddlers Classroom for children 12 months and walking to 2 ½ years old, the Preschool I Classroom for children 2 ½ to 3 ½ years old, the Preschool II Classroom for children 3 ½ to 6 years old, and the Summer School Age Classroom for children 6 to 10 years old.
