Biographical/Historical note

Kansas Board of Regents

The Kansas Legislature created a State Board of Regents to govern the state four-year higher education institutions in 1925. Previous to that action, the schools had reported to other authorities as follows: 1865-circa 1873: Board of Directors. Kansas State Normal School's board consisted of the Governor, State Treasurer, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, and six members appointed by the Governor. 1873-1912: Board of Regents created for each institution, with the school's president serving as an ex-officio member. This board reported to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. 1913-1924: Reorganized State Board of Administration which managed most state institutions. It consisted of four members, with the Governor serving as ex-officio
