Early in this century the southeast corner of Kansas, southwest Missouri and Northeast Oklahoma were the focus of extensive lead and zinc mining. The museum has a large display of crystalline forms of the ores mined in this area. Some of the minerals found in this area and on display are calcite, dolomite, pyrite, galena (lead ore) and sphalerite (zinc ore).
