Kansas is rich in sedimentary rocks and variations in
their deposition can create many different and interesting types of structures.
Two large displays in the southwest corner of the museum show a variety
of these unique rock forms. Included are examples of cone-in-cone, ripple
marks, boxwork, geodes, concretions, septaria, sand crystals, mud cracks,
armored mud balls, rosettes, oolites, styolites and nodules. Pictured in
the image below is an example of boxwork.
