81st Annual Riggs Reunion
After a group picture was taken, the invocation was given by Calvin Schmidt followed by a basket dinner.
The business meeting was called to order by President, Dianne Dewey. Lela Heacock led the group in singing America The Beautiful. Each person attending then introduced themselves and their spouse and told their line of ancestors. First time family attendees were: Jim and Nicole Hoch, Warrenville, Illinois and Kevin, Dyane and Paul Smokorowski, Andover, Kansas. Minutes from last year were read by Reta Riggs Cox, secretary. Richard Riggs moved and Betty Bryant seconded that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried. Treasurer’s report was given stating that there was a 7/31/2008 balance of $193.46, donations $220.00 by free will offering, $48.00 for cookbooks and directories for a total income of $461.46; expenses: postage for mailing cookbooks in Aug. 2008 was $17.46 and $75.00 for the hall rental totaling $92.46. We have an outstanding bill of $360.37 for the cookbooks. A $600.00 check had been mailed to Esther Henderson in Aug. 2008 to reduce the bill of printing the cookbooks leaving a balance of $360.37 still owed to her. Another check was mailed to Esther Aug. 2009 of $250.00 leaving her balance of $110.37 still owed on cookbooks. This leaves the treasurer with a balance of $119.00 for the upcoming year. It was moved and seconded that the treasurer’s report be accepted. Motion carried. The secretary reported that only emails had been sent out for the reunion this year. Because of finances the officers had decided not to mail out invitations for this year. It was the concensus of the group attending to continue with email only invitations.
