After a big lunch, the business meeting was called to order by President, Diann Dewey. Each person attending introduced themselves and their spouse and told their line of ancestors. Minutes from last year were read by Reta Cox, secretary. Sheryl Bartlett moved and Dawna Schmidt seconded that minutes be approved. Motion carried. Treasurer’s report was given stating that there was an 8/01/2004 balance of $126.00, donations 8/15/2004 $325.00, expenses of $257.00 leaving a balance of $194.00. A free will offering was collected. The secretary reported that 145 emails had been sent out and 175 invitations were mailed. The emailed invitations helped cut expenses. Reta Cox asked if anyone knew the correct addresses for the returned mail to notify one of the officers so that corrections could be made in the Riggs’ Directory. Patty Delmott reported on the web site and asked for suggestions of additions and improvements to it. The oldest person attending the reunion was Mrs. Elizabeth Riggs, 90, from Wichita. Reese Schmidt, 3 ½ month old daughter of Ben and Jessica Schmidt, Moundridge, was the youngest member. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wrigley, Boise, ID, had come the farthest distance. Reta Cox told of the Riggs Cemetery south of Wilcox, AZ. She, also, stated that there has been a Riggs’ get together in ID the last few years. Anyone interested in either of these, should see her. Those who have passed away during the last year are Lee Stephenson and Jacquie Dunn’s son who was killed in Iraq. It was really nice to see some returning faces: Kathy Zornes, Bill Bucher and Nancy Seward with her fiancé, Tom O’Dell. Wanda Howard’s granddaughter and great granddaughter, Ashley and Ainsley Charest, were there for the first time. The meeting for the 78th annual reunion will be held in Burns, Kansas at the Burns Community Center on the 3rd Sunday of August 2006. It was moved by Sheryl Bartlett and seconded by Annette Wrigley to retain the current officers. Motion carried. Lela Heacock led another Riggs’ song, The Riggs Go Marching On.
Carl Cox explained that since we have several school teachers and students in our family, with the school year beginning the first part of August and ending as late as the end of June and in an attempt to encourage more of our younger family members to attend the reunion, we might want to move the traditional date. He first moved to change the traditional date from the third Sunday in August to the third Sunday in July. After quite a bit of discussion, it was decided to amend that motion to read as follows: change the traditional date from the third Sunday in August to the last Sunday in July. Then the motion was made by Carl Cox, seconded by Loren Cox to table that motion until next year giving those who could not be at the reunion a chance to vote on changing the date. Patty will put the form on the web site, so one can vote on this any time during the next year by letting an officer know of their desire. It will also be included in next year’s invitation to the reunion for members to submit a written and signed vote “FOR” or “AGAINST” the proposal.
Patty Delmott moved meeting adjourned. Dawna Schmidt seconded. Meeting adjourned.

I realize that each of us have very busy schedules and it is easier sometimes to just stay home or do something
else, but we are a GREAT family and I know I always leave the reunion feeling very glad that I made the effort
to attend. It is that one day a year I can visit with family that I only see once a year and it’s well worth the
effort!! Our family becomes more important with each passing year.
We made a concentrated effort two years ago to update the Riggs’ family information and this year to obtain email
addresses for family members or interested parties. Please be sure to send us any corrections, changes or additions
to mailing addresses, phone numbers or email addresses that we may not have or of any genealogy information which
includes FULL names, dates and location of births, deaths, marriages, divorces, adoptions for each person in the
family, spouse(s) and children, etc. We want to keep these listings current so there will not be so much work for
our 80th anniversary. In case we have missed someone in this mailing, please share your invitation with everybody
in your family and bring them along to the reunion. We would love for you to share copies of any pictures or family
stories with us. You may bring these with you when you attend the reunion or mail them to me and I will forward them
to the appropriate person.
Please bring your scrapbooks or anything from your ancestors that you would like for other family members to see on Sunday.
