Emporia State University Theatre announces its New York Theatre Tour. Running from Monday, March 15 to Sunday, March 21, 2010, the tour will be led by Jim and Lindy Bartruff. It provides an opportunity for theatergoers of all ages to enjoy live, professional theatre in New York City. The tour originates in Emporia, KS. But, through arrangements with your travel professional departures from other cities can be arranged. We'll provide information about ground transfers between the airport and the hotel when you join the tour.
The cost of the ground portion of the tour will be approximately $1000 per person for quad rooms and $1409 per person for twin rooms (Final figures will be available Fall 2009). Triple and single room accommodations can also be arranged. The average rate for a NYC hotel room for $205 a night according the USA Today. By buying as a group, we are able to save money on the cost of our accommodations, theatre tickets and other events.
THEATRE TICKETS. The cost of theatre tickets to four productions is included in the quoted price. Tickets are always subject to availability. Our group choices will be announced in January but may be selected from among the following:
• Billy Elliot. Tony winning best musical for 2009 from the popular film with music by Elton John.
• Hair. The award-winning revival.
• In the Heights. The 2008 Tony-winner for best musical.
• Mary Poppins. Based on the Disney film and co-produced with Cameron Mackintosh.
• Next to Normal. A groundbreaking new musical.
• Shrek, the Musical. The Broadway version of the popular film comedy.
• West Side Story. The celebrated bi-lingual revival.
HOUSING. Centrally located in Midtown Manhattan, the Wellington Hotel is a few steps to Carnegie Hall, City Center, Central Park and Broadway, New York's celebrated Theatre District. Fifth Avenue Shopping, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Times Square, MoMA and the Museum of Radio and Television are within easy walking distance. You'll be afforded ample free time during your week in New York to tour the sights, shop, attend sporting events or see other shows. We have reserved space at the hotel in various accommodations. Total cost per person will be figured in quad, triple, double or single rooms. PLEASE NOTE: Meals and airfares are not included in the tour price. PAYMENT SCHEDULE. A deposit of $300 must accompany your reservation. This deposit is due January 25, 2010 . The balance is due March 1, 2010. Make all checks payable to ESU FOUNDATION . Cancellations received on or before January 31, 2010, will receive a refund of moneys paid less a $50 cancellation fee. Thirty days prior to travel, there can be NO cancellations. Once theatre tickets are purchased, they are never refundable.
AIR TRAVEL TO NEW YORK. You need to book air travel on your own. Current airfares range widely, depending upon the city of origin, bonus programs, etc. We recommend that you contact your local travel agent. Websites such as Travelocity, Orbitz and Yahoo Travel are also recommended. The sooner you book your flight, the better the fare. We'll provide you with information about ground transfers between the airport and the hotel when you join the tour. Current airfares between Kansas City and New York are between $200 and $400. There are also good rates out of Minneapolis and other cities in our region.
