  1. Sulsbrück, Birger, "Latin-American Percussion: Rhythms and Rhythm Instruments From Cuba and Brazil," Edition Wilhelm Hansen, Copenhagen (1986).  Thorough organized presentation of Cuban and Brazilian instruments and rhythms. This is a good companion to Sulsbrück's video.

  2.
  3. Dworsky, Alan and Sansby, Betsy, "Conga Drumming: A Beginner's Guide to Playing With Time," Dancing Hands Music (1994).

  4. Straightforward instruction for beginners. Includes an instructional CD. Dancing Hands also produces a "Practice Partner" CD of clave and bell rhythm patterns.

  5. Mauleón, Rebeca, "Salsa Guidebook for Piano and Ensemble," Sher Music Co. (1993).

  6. As the title implies, this book is not specifically about conga drumming. It does have a lot of relevant material and neat pictures. For more info, check Rebeca Mauleón's publications page on her Rumbeca website.

  7. Gerard, Charley and Sheller, Marty, "Salsa!: The Rhythm of Latin Music," White Cliffs Media (1989).

  8. This book is another general introduction to latin music. The opening discussion of musical "Insiders and Outsiders" is interesting from a cultural point of view.
