Part 3 - Faculty, Staff and Student Personal Web Pages

Personal Web Space on the Emporia State University Web Server is denoted by the '~' character. Example, Your personal web address is similar to: http://www.emporia.edu/~userid.

IMPORTANT NOTE! Always name your first page index.htm. This in not the page title. The page title is what you see in the upper left portion on the browser window. This page's title is Personal Web Space and it is named index.htm. You will replace this page with the first page of your site.

Faculty, staff, and students of Emporia State University are allowed access to web server space for their own personal web pages. The University exercises no editorial or other control over the content of these unofficial web pages, however, all material posted on these pages must adhere to ESU Web Server Policy guidelines.

Emporia State University does not endorse or approve the information contained in these pages. All information and opinions are the responsibility of the information provider. The University accepts no responsibility for the accuracy or currency of the material and information which appears on these pages.

Below is information you'll need to have handy when you publish your web page:

  • After your form is processed and we've done what we need to give you access to the server, your personal home page address will be ESU's web address ("www.emporia.edu"), your userid - the same form of your name that appears in your e-mail address (ex. Winnie Pooh's e-mail address might be "poohwinn@emporia.edu", so his userid is "poohwinn"), and the name of your home page which should be index.htm.
  • Example: So, from what we showed above, our fictitious friend's personal web address would be: http://www.emporia.edu/~poohwinn/
  • Refer to the Sending pages to the server instructions for publishing information to your faculty and staff directory. Call TCS HelpDesk (5555) if you do not have FTP software installed on your computer or need to know how to configure your web page publishing program so you may publish straight from it. (Composer and many other web publishing applications allow for this.)
  • To request faculty or staff web space, fill out and send in the Faculty and Staff Personal Web Space Agreement Contract.

If you have any questions at this point, please send them to the university webmaster at webmaster@emporia.edu.
