Dear Prospect Student Athletes:
Thank you for expressing an interest in Emporia State University and the Lady Hornet Volleyball program. Emporia State University has built a fine reputation in the sport of volleyball and has done so with talented recruits like you.
Emporia State is a NCAA Division II member who participates in the MIAA conference. We play a very competitive schedule. Emporia State has a philosophy that we must schedule excellent competition in order to develop our talents to full potential.
Most young student athletes are interested in receiving an athletic scholarship. Our scholarships are based upon overall volleyball talent, abilities, and skills. In addition, we look for student athletes with a strong academic background as reflected in their grade point averages and ACT scores. Those ranking high on our recruiting list also possess discipline, desire, competitiveness and an aggressive spirit. Our needs vary from year to year pending the number of seniors graduating and their positions of specialty.
Hopefully, this letter answers some of your questions about our volleyball and our scholarships. We would recommend that you make a campus visit to see the university and to discuss our volleyball program. A visit to campus will enable you to truly evaluate our academic and athletic programs. Campus visitations can be made through our Admissions Office at 1-877-468-6378 or our Athletic Department. Do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance. We hope to visit with you sometime soon about Emporia State and our volleyball program. Hopefully, you will be the one to carry on the traditions of the Lady Hornet Volleyball.
Sincerely,
Bing Xu

How To Become A Part of Lady Hornet Volleyball:
-
The First Thing you need to do is to contact us and let us know of your interest. The Best Way is to Use the Online Questionnaire available on this web site. This gives us most of the information that we need to start the recruiting process.Just Print out the Questionnaire, mail it to us, or even Fax it to us. The address and numbers are on the Questionnaire at the top. Send a copy of your high school, and or club schedule, so we may have an opportunity to see you play in person.
-
The next thing that is very helpful to us is a video tape of you playing. The best Tapes generally start off with some individual skills. Passing, Setting, Serving, Blocking, and Hitting. This gives us an idea what your form and Technique is like. The second part of the tape should include some game film. Straight footage is better than highlights, and still cameras are better than moving. The game film should be against the best competition you played, for example from state tournament, or club. and one that shows all of your skills. A game that just shows you serving a whole game is not as helpful. If you play multiple positions, give us film of you playing all of the positions you play.
-
The next step is to contact us directly and talk to us. The phone number is also at the top of the Questionnaire. Before you call write down a list of questions that you may have concerning the school or the program. Here are some examples that can give you an idea of what the program is like and what it is looking for in players:
- How many seniors do you have graduating, and what positions did they play? ( This will give you an idea if there is an available spot at the position you play )
- How many players are you looking to sign for next season? What kind of offense do you run? ( 5 - 1, 6 - 2, quick, slow, swing, etc. )
- What are the expectations of the coach academically, athletically?
- What was the team's record last season? How did the finish in the conference? How did they finished in the region or district?
-
What conference are you in, and what are some of the other teams in the conference? (This will give you an idea about the amount of travel during the year) This will give you a start, and will get the conversation started.
Hopefully, this is helpful to you and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
