Purpose and Objectives
Emporia State University Upward Bound - Project Success is a federally funded U.S. Department of Education TRIO project designed to increase a participant's motivation to complete high school and a four year post secondary education. Emporia State University Upward Bound - Project Success serves 50 high school participants in Lyon, Chase, and Morris counties. Emporia State University has graciously provided facilities for this program and the federal government has provided the financial support used for program operations. Listed below are some of the program's objectives:
- Upward Bound - Project Success will select 50 participants who meet program requirements, including a stated interest in pursuing a four-year college degree. Upward Bound - Project Success will provide 100% of the participants with tutoring and other supportive services. 90% will advance to the next grade level. Upward Bound - Project Success will provide 100% of the participants with ACT preparation and 90% of seniors will earn a composite score of 21 on the ACT.80% Upward Bound - Project Success participants will make use of or take part in at least three service/activities each year through their respective graduation dates. 100% of the senior participants will complete at least two college applications and 75% will enroll in a post-secondary education program. Qualifying high school seniors will be offered a commuter summer college "Bridge" program with 80% of participants completing coursework with a cumulative grade point of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
- 60% of Upward Bound - Project Success graduates who entered a post-secondary program at least six years previously will graduate or be making satisfactory progress toward their college degree. A follow-up plan will be implemented to track progress.
