Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

TESOL Graduate Certificate

The TESOL Graduate Certificate is designed for international teachers and non-education majors in general. There is a growing need and worldwide demand for this type of short-term TESOL training program. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, career opportunities for TESOL teachers were forecast to increase at a faster-than-average rate (BLS, 2015). Greater demand for TESOL teachers is expected because of a growing number of English Learners (ELs) all over the world.  While the EL student population continues to increase dramatically, the number of well-trained teachers that can provide effective instruction to these students has not dramatically increased. College graduates who can teach English in foreign countries are in high demand in today's interconnected world.

With course entry points during the fall, spring, and summer, the certificate can be completed in 12 months or less, depending on the student course load.  The TESOL Graduate Certificate credits may be applied towards the MATESOL degree and other degrees such as master degree programs at The Teachers College that list those five courses as electives.
