EXPECTATIONS AND TIPS AT A GLANCE
1. Consider yourself a member of the educational team.
2. Be punctual.
3. Act and dress in a professional manner.
4. Keep student information confidential.
5. Always consult your supervising teacher if you have any questions – but be sure not to interrupt their teaching. Never be afraid to ask questions.
6. Be flexible and willing to assist the teacher as needed.
7. Call the principal or office if you will be late or absent.
8. Learn the school’s behavior expectations and enforce them.
9. Enter and leave classrooms quietly and discretely.
10. Learn the procedures of the classrooms in which you work.
11. Refrain from any preferential treatment of students.
12. Become acquainted with the secretary and custodians.
13. Student misbehavior should be brought to the attention of the supervisor as soon as possible.
14. Be patient when working with children. Show them that you care. Don’t be complacent or disinterested. Expect high achievement. Remember that progress comes in small steps with slow learners.
15. Learn the student’s names.
16. Encourage the students to be proud of themselves.
17. Remember that you are providing a much needed service. YOU ARE IMPORTANT!
