Her principal described Mrs. Herald this way, "She constantly searches for ways to make her teaching more interesting and more informative. One of her greatest strengths is bringing the real world of physical science and chemistry into the classroom. Chris uses a project based, hands-on approach to instruction with students. Her classroom activities cause students to explore and understand how the world around them relates to the science they are studying. She has an excellent rapport with her students and shows a sincere interest in them as individuals."
A student sums up Mrs. Herald's exceptional qualities: "She is always there when a student needs her. She is always helping expand her students knowledge by motivating them to learn and by helping them develop their thinking process. She contributes by actively participating in after-school clubs like Science Olympiad and the demonstration group. She is always creative, fun and a nice teacher to be around, and I feel lucky to have been in her science class.
A peer teacher suggests that Mrs. Herald is the "epitome of a master teacher." She also states that, "Chris creates dynamic science labs which demonstrate the key points of chemistry for active eighth grade students. She also unselfishly shares her lessons with her colleagues by presenting her lessons at professional conferences and writing articles for professional journals. During summers, Chris participates in coursework designed to improve her understanding of the learning process. As a master teacher, Chris then applies what she has learned within her own classroom. She continues to evolve as a teacher through her never-ending challenge to keep getting better."
