"Every year students come to my classroom putting their trust in me. In return, I must accept each of my students in all their uniqueness as well. I must effectively plan and model what it is that I want them to learn. I must accept that responsibility seriously. Each day, each lesson must be precisely and carefully thought through. Students deserve an education that is engaging and stimulating. I must remain an active partner with each student in ensure that learning takes place. I believe all students can learn. Varying methods and different approaches bring about effective teaching and learning…It is my goal that I truly come into each of their lives and in some small way leave a footprint on their hearts. I take from each one of my students something that will leave their footprints on my heart to make me a teacher better able to understand and educate the students that will follow in their footsteps."

What People Say...
Kenneth Kennedy, Director of Operations for Salina Schools relates, “I always enjoyed my frequent visits to Mrs. Ewing’s classroom. Her classroom was one of those rooms where as an administrator I always felt very welcome. During my frequent visits I was always delighted to see students motivated and actively engaged in their educational endeavors. Additionally, she would always take time to welcome me and show me what they were doing.
A current student of Mrs. Ewing said, “I am a fourth-grade student in Mrs. Ewing’s class. I think Mrs. Ewing is a good choice for Master Teacher because she works so hard at her job. She explains new things well and helps us do better in school…She knows when we aren’t doing our best or when we aren’t trying. I really enjoy being in Mrs. Ewing’s classroom this year because in addition to learning a lot, we do fun activities like Children’s Reader’s Theater, stories, and multiplication-facts Memory.”
“When I think of Mrs. Ewing the first thing that comes to mind is her caring and kind heart. She is making a difference in the lives of young people through her dedication to teaching and the example of her life. What possible greater contribution can a person make?” Mike Gripe, a parent of one of Mrs. Ewing’s students, concludes his letter of recommendation with, “It is without reservation that I recommend Mrs. Karla Ewing for Kansas Master Teacher.”
