Rehabilitation Counseling Program

 

Program Outcomes

The Rehabilitation Education Programs at Emporia State University  are comprised of a B.S. in Rehabilitation Services Education (RSE) and an online M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling (RC48). Program milestones and distinctions include:

  • DiscussionESU Campus was made fully accessible for persons with mobility impairments in 1959.
  • Over 500 students have earned a masters degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at ESU since 1966.
  • RC48 Online is fully accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education through 2014.
  • RC48 Online offers a 48-credit master’s degree to accommodate distance students.
  • RC48 Online is the sole graduate-level rehabilitation education program in Kansas and Nebraska.

Student outcomes are evaluated annually using data collected in the program assessment process. At this time:

  • 16 graduate students are presently attending RC48;
  • there are 3.5 full-time, tenure-track faculty, with an instructor-to-student ratio of 1:5;
  • all faculty teaching who CORE-accredited curriculum have doctoral degrees in rehabilitation counselor education or a closely related field;
  • all regular RC48 faculty hold the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential;
  • all students in the RC48 program are required to maintain a B (3.00) average or greater to qualify for degree candidacy;
  • the cumulative GPA of RC48 graduates for 2013 (nine people) was 3.75;
  • 27 people have graduated from the program in the past five years (2008-2013);
  • 22% of graduates in past five years were from underrepresented groups, including persons with disabilities (2008-2013);
  • 85% of program graduates are employed in the public sector.
