Counselor Education Programs

The Department of Counselor Education offers one undergraduate program - Rehabilitation Services Education - and four graduate programs - Art Therapy, Clinical Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling. Specific information regarding each program is provided below.


Undergraduate


Rehabilitation Services Education

The B.S. in Rehabilitation Services Education is designed to prepare students to become rehabilitation services specialists in a variety of human service settings. Graduates of the program are eligible for the Licensed Addiction Counselor creditial in Kansas.

Graduate Programs


Art Therapy

The Master of Science in Art Therapy prepares human service professionals to utilize the creative art process and patient/client responses as reflections of an individual’s development, abilities, personality, interests, concerns, and conflicts.

Clinical Counseling

The goal of the Clinical Counseling Program is to prepare professional counselors who desire the abilities to provide therapeutic services to clients. The program is unique, meeting the requirements for both Kansas and national certifying and licensing boards.

Rehabilitation Counseling (RC48)

This online 48 credit hour graduate program first became available in Fall 2014. The focus is to support individuals with disabilities to secure and maintain competitive employment, independent living, and self-sufficiency. The program leads to eligibility for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor crediential.

School Counseling

is designed for candidates to develop the abilities to meet the needs of PreK-12 students. With a number of courses available online, this program is designed to meet the needs of full-time students and working professionals. Candidates may complete the program through the ESU campus in Emporia or at ESU-KC in Overland Park, Kansas.

Community Counseling Services

Community Counseling Services (CCS) provides affordable counseling for individuals, couples, families, and groups in a professional, quiet, and confidential setting for residents of Emporia and surrounding communities. Services are provided by advanced graduate students in training under the supervision of experienced faculty with counseling, research, and supervisory expertise

School Counselor Center

The School Counselor Center assists school counselors with various needs, from consulting on any subject related to school counseling to providing crises consulting on-site or via technology services. A major component of the center is a library of current materials to have readily available to school counselors for a small shipping and handling fee. Items may be checked out for four weeks or less.
