Frequently Asked Questions - Specialist's License

  • What is a restricted school specialist license? It is a license that allows an individual limited access to practice in a school under a special arrangement among the individual, a Kansas teacher education institution, and an LEA.  For ESU’s program this will refer only to school counselor and library media specialist.

  • What School Specialist licensure areas are available through this program?  School Counselor and School Library Media.

  • What is the internship? It is a paid position in the school with you serving as a school specialist in the licensure area.

  • How long will it take me to complete the program and apply for an initial school specialist license?  It will take a minimum of one school year and maximum of two school years.  Several factors will determine the length of time to complete the program.
