The Teachers College at Emporia State University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 466-7496.  This accreditation covers initial and advanced educator preparation programs.  NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.

Frequently Asked Questions - Specialist's License

  1. What is a restricted school specialist license? It is a license that allows an individual limited access to practice in a school under a special arrangement among the individual, a Kansas teacher education institution, and an LEA.  For ESU’s program this will refer only to school counselor and library media specialist.
  2. What School Specialist licensure areas are available through this program?  School Counselor and School Library Media.
  3. What is the internship? It is a paid position in the school with you serving as a school specialist in the licensure area.
  4. How long will it take me to complete the program and apply for an initial school specialist license?  It will take a minimum of one school year and maximum of three school years.  Several factors will determine the length of time to complete the program.
